Monster Truck Cars!

Greg bought an R.C. car from his friend in Tacoma. He wanted to make a track for them outside in the back, but mostly we've been playing with them inside. He's building another car for his engineering club at school, and they will take it to a competition in Tacoma at the end of the month!

Some of his old friends at Tacoma Community College are in charge of building the tracks for the competition, and other friends there are building a car of their own to race. Eight other colleges are sending cars to compete also.

I was going to go along too, but will be staying home after all. There's not really room for me in the car and I don't know how much I really want to sit squished in the car with three other college guys that I don't know for six hours each way.

A model of a plant cell....Yum!

First Place Winner!

I made a model of a plant cell for my College Biology class. We could choose to work alone or with a partner. We also could choose to make an animal cell or a plant cell. The animal cell is the bare minimum, but if we did a plant cell with the extra parts (Chloroplasts, Water Vacuole...etc) we would receive extra credit for each of those extra parts. On Thursday, the class voted on their top 5, and then picked the top 3 from those 5. The third place winner received 5 extra credit points, and the second place got 7 extra credit points, and first place got 10 extra credit points! When it was time, the teacher slowly read the results of the votes. "Josie got 23 votes, Third Place!...Michael got 26 votes, Second Place!.....and Holly got 43 votes! First place winner!"

I also made cupcakes for the class, since it was Valentine's Day...And I knew that a lot of the people (including my teacher--who told the class this)thought that they would get to eat my project since it was a cake and completely edible. I made cupcakes with the bottom half chocolate cake with chocolate chips, and the top half pink vanilla cake with pink frosting. They are pretty good! I saw some people go to get their third cupcake at the end of class!

I made a slide show with all of the cell projects that were made. It's kind of fun to see what everybody did. Some of them were very creative! It was a hard choice for me when I was voting.

Our Poor Snow Caves

Well, I'm really sorry but I forgot to go take a picture of our snow caves. So this is when they are two days old, and kind of sunken in. I'm sure you can imagine how super cool they were though! The one on the right is mine. I could get completely inside with room for Greg to crawl in halfway. Greg's, on the left was big enough just for himself alone to squeeze in. (He started digging when I was halfway done.) Anyway, maybe I'll dig another cave, and if I do I'll take a picture right away!

My Favorite Sandwich

Summer put her favorite sandwich on her blog, and challenged everybody else to put theirs up too! Sorry, I don't have a picture of it though. I made this for dinner, just because of this post....but I got so excited that I ate it before I remembered to take a picture. I'm sure you can imagine how good it looks though. =)

When I lived with my sister, Wendy, in Texas, one of our favorite Sunday afternoon lunches was Egg Sandwiches. I would usually prepare the bread (Toast and mayo) and cut the cheese. Ha Ha, I know. Dustin would get to work on cooking eggs, and if we had it-- ham/bacon. Slap them all together and you've got about the best sandwich ever! It's very filling and good for you! Sliced apples compliment it nicely. (As well as chocolate cake...which really compliments everything nicely, except my figure. Hahaha!)

I just read this to Greg, who informed me of the corniness of my jokes. I suppose that is the result of being stuck inside the house all day because of that crazy snow storm...sorry guys. =)

Snow Date

Greg built a really nice sled with skis from the second hand store, wood, and rope. He was down in the shop working on it all day today, and around dinner time he finally came up. "It's Finished!" he exclaimed. I was in the middle of baking some cinnamon pockets, so I didn't go out with him...but I got some pictures of him through the window.

Greg ran up to the top of the hill and slid down on the sled. This is just before he stopped, saving himself from a fall off the 6 ft retaining wall that supports the wheat field.

We decided to take the sled and walk up the hill to a little cafe for dinner. Unfortunately, the sidewalks hadn't been plowed yet, so it didn't work for him to pull me on it like we planned. We had a nice dinner, and I had a surprise meeting with a friend from Bremerton. It's fun to find people I know all the way over here! We rode the sled back down the hill and turned into the parking lot of the apartments next door. With so many cars driving over the snow, the parking lot was basically an outdoor ice rink, set on a big steep hill! We took turns running to the top of the hill and sliding down full speed, while the other person waited below and watched for cars. The sled is so good--you can even steer.

On the way home from the parking lot, we were walking through the alleys between rows of storage units, and we got caught up in the snow and how deep it was in places. The crazy wind has been blowing so hard that it's shaped the snow into really big snow drifts in places. Greg fell down and disappeared into one. So I found a really good bank of snow and started digging. We both worked on digging our caves in the snow until I was too tired to dig anymore. I can crawl completely into my cave with room to spare. It's fun, but I feel intensely claustrophobic if I go in head first. I crawled in feet first so my head was closest to the opening. Then Greg came to look and started coming in too, and I felt panicky and had to push him out. Hahaha! Isn't that silly? We had a fun date tonight. I'll have to go take a picture of our caves in the morning.
